Asian Heritage Foundation-Southern Alberta invites you to participate in the following activities of ImaginASIAN 2011:

 

1/ Saturday, May 7th

Kicking off Asian Heritage Month
At the Eau Claire Market’s Barclay Parade
Free admission

Noon to 1:30pm

Calgary’s Asian Heritage Foundation kicks off their 2011 line-up of events with a little sampling of what’s in store for Calgarians during Asian Heritage Month in May.  Join us for a sampling of some Asian food and entertainment, hear what’s coming up during the month and catch the opening of the I He(Art) ImaginASIAN Youth Art Show.

 

2/ Saturday, May 7th to Monday, May 9th
I HeART ImaginASIAN Youth Art Show
At the Eau Claire Market
Free admission

During market hours

The I HeART YOUTH Art Show returns for a second year, featuring a larger company of
emerging young artists working in different visual media.

 

3/ Sunday, May 8th
Find the CanASIAN in YOU Bus Tour (#1)
Adults $15; Children 7-12 yrs: $10; 0-6 yrs: free
1:00 – 4:30 PM

Our ever-popular bus tours are back for three Sundays in May, highlighting two different Asian communities per week. Come for every tour: experience the sights and sounds of each culture, taste the delicacies, try your hand at creating special crafts, discover the Asian in you!

 

4/ Saturday, May 14th
Asian Heritage Month National Video Conference
Venue to be arranged
Free admission
2:00 – 6:00 pm

Four cities across Canada (Montreal, Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver) celebrate Asian Heritage Month with a live video conference featuring speakers and performances.

 

5/ Sunday, May 15th
Find the CanASIAN in YOU Bus Tour (#2)
Ticketed event
1:00 – 4:30 PM

Our ever-popular bus tours are back for three Sundays in May, highlighting two different Asian communities per week. Come for every tour: experience the sights and sounds of each culture, taste the delicacies, try your hand at creating special crafts, discover the Asian in you!

 

6/Sunday, May 29th

ImaginASIAN New Millennium All-Styles Competition
Chinese Cultural Centre
Admission: $20
1:00 – 9:00 PM

All-styles crews compete in preliminaries to make it to the final round of six teams that will face-off to determine which team will succeed last year’s winner “We Got Sole” for the New Millennium crown. MTV’s America’s Best Dance Crew Season 5 winners, the “Poreotics” are coming to Calgary to perform that evening!

 

8/Saturday, June 4th
ImaginASIAN Recognition & Cultural Night
Regency Palace
6:30 PM

As a wrap-up to the ImaginASIAN Festival celebrating Asian Heritage Month in Calgary, the AHF will present a Cultural Night Banquet on June 4, 2011. The evening will celebrate Asian culture in Calgary through an art exhibit, an opportunity for attendees to sample various Asian foods, the chance to appreciate various cultural performances such as musical numbers, dances and songs, and the celebration and recognition of contributions by Asian Calgarians in the fields of the arts, social services, charities and the business sector.

 

9/ Throughout the year
From Asian shores to the Canadian prairies

Ongoing book & multi-media initiative to raise funds to boost the Asian collections of the
Public Libraries of Southern Alberta. When this program was launched in 2009, support from ImaginASIAN accounted for the largest donation ever received by the Parkland Library System, which serves over 250 libraries across Alberta.

 

10/ ImaginASIAN Film Series

In partnership with The Calgary International Film Festival, Mongrel Media and The Glenbow Museum, Asian Heritage Foundation will screen three Asian films, presented free of charge.
